I Almost Gave Up Pumping at Week 4

I almost gave up pumping at week 4.

Everything hurt. My supply was dropping. I was crying after every session. My baby was not latching well, so exclusive pumping became my only option, and I was completely exhausted.

What Almost Broke Me

• Pumping every 2 hours, including overnight

• Painful sessions despite trying different settings

• Feeling like a failure every time I looked at the bottle

• The constant guilt of not producing enough

What Helped Me Keep Going

1. I Joined a Support Group

Finding other pumping moms online changed everything. I realized I was not alone. So many women were going through the same challenges.

2. I Got the Right Flange Size

I had been using the wrong size the entire time. Once I got properly fitted, the pain went away. It made a huge difference.

3. I Let Go of the Numbers

Tracking every milliliter was affecting my emotions. I shifted my mindset to focus on the fact that any amount I provide is good for my baby.

4. I Invested in a Better Pump

My first pump was noisy, slow, and uncomfortable. Switching to a hands-free option gave me back both time and peace of mind.

5. I Set Boundaries

I stopped pumping at 2 AM and reduced my sessions to 7 or 8 times a day instead of 10. My supply adjusted, and I finally started getting rest.

Where I Am Now

My baby is now 8 months old, and we are still going strong. That difficult period at four weeks feels far behind me now.

A Note to Other Moms

If you are feeling the way I did, please know that it gets better. You are doing your best, and that is enough.

It is okay to pump less, try different approaches, or switch to formula if that is what works best for you.

Fed is best, and a happy mom matters too.
