Your breast pump is supposed to make life easier — not more frustrating! When something goes wrong it can feel overwhelming. But most issues have simple fixes!
Here are the 8 most common breast pump problems and how to solve them
Problem 1: Low or No Suction
Symptoms: Milk isn't flowing or the pump feels weak!
Solutions:
- Check all connections: tubing, flange, valve
- Inspect the valve — it might be worn or cracked
- Make sure the flange forms a complete seal
- Clean the valve and membrane — milk residue blocks suction
Problem 2: Painful Pumping
Symptoms: Discomfort during or after pumping!
Solutions:
- Lower the suction level — more isn't always better
- Check your flange size — too big or too small causes pain
- Try a different pumping mode
- Use nipple lubrication specifically designed for pumping
- Ensure your nipple is centered in the flange tunnel
Problem 3: Pump is Making Strange Noises
Symptoms: Grinding, rattling, or clicking sounds!
Solutions:
- Check if the tubing is properly connected
- Inspect for debris in the motor area
- Make sure the pump is on a flat, stable surface
- For persistent noise, contact Dr.isla customer support
Problem 4: Milk Backflow into Tubing
Symptoms: Milk in the tubing or motor!
Solutions:
- Pump in a more upright position
- Don't overfill the bottles
- Check that valves are properly seated
- Stop pumping immediately and clean tubing thoroughly
Problem 5: Battery Won't Hold Charge
Symptoms: Pump dies quickly or won't turn on!
Solutions:
- Use only the original charger
- Battery life decreases over time — consider replacement
- For EB50D, ensure you're charging for the full 2 hours
Problem 6: Flange Won't Stay in Place
Symptoms: Losing suction constantly during pumping!
Solutions:
- Clean your breast and nipple before pumping
- Use a flange insert for a better fit
- Try a different size flange
- Consider using a hands-free pumping bra
Problem 7: Pump Stops Mid-Session
Symptoms: Pump suddenly turns off!
Solutions:
- Check the power connection
- Battery might be low (for cordless models)
- The auto-shutoff timer may have activated
- Motor may be overheating — let it rest
Problem 8: Skin Irritation
Symptoms: Redness, soreness, or rash on nipples or breast!
Solutions:
- Check for allergies to pump materials
- Use hypoallergenic flange inserts
- Ensure proper flange sizing
- Take breaks between pumping sessions
- Apply nipple cream after pumping

IInjus purchased my DR ISLA EB50D Wearable. By the time I checked when it arrives was ok but after 2 times used, the other motor has a strange sound and it seems not working, not sucking. Ive checked all the parts and all are properly aligned.
